The California state legislature enacted a ban on plastic grocery bags. “A number of cities and counties in California and other U.S. states, including Hawaii's Maui County, have made it illegal for grocery stores to pack purchases in plastic,” reported the Huffington Post. “But at the state level, opposition from plastic bag makers has usually prevailed.”
Given that plastic bags create heaps of difficult-to-recycle trash, the California ban would be the first—but likely not the last—of its kind in the country. Should ours become a plastic bag-less nation, we all should be toting around Thirty-One bags. The plus side of it is they’re a lot more fun and stylish then plastic.
